Installation

8. Will the LEDs on the Model 360 Satellite Modem help to confirm Rx lock on the proper satellite?

The Rx light on the Model 360 will illuminate if the modem has been configured and you have obtained Rx lock on the assigned satellite. Once Rx lock is achieved, the Synchronization (SYN) light will illuminate, indicating the satellite timing sequence has been accomplished with the StarBand Hub and within 30 seconds the Connection (CON) light will illuminate, indicating the VSAT is communicating with the StarBand Hub.

Caution: Even if you are locked on the assigned satellite, the Rx light and the SYN light will still illuminate if:

  • The modem has been incorrectly configured (incorrect zip code or site parameters)
  • The antenna feed assembly has the incorrect transmit polarity (applies only to T-7)

However, the CON light will not be on.

Note: All three of these lights (Rx, SYN & CON) must be on before you call into CVACS and a Continuous Wave (CW) is generated to obtain co-pol and cross-pol alignment values

Description

POWER

Indicates Model 360 connected to a 120 V A/C power source.

Rx

Illuminates when Model360 has been configured and detects the Gilat OB frequency. Modem must be configured to get Rx. This will indicate a working receiver on the antenna and a functional connection through the receive side of the RF cabling. If the modulator for a given cluster outbound is operational, the VSAT will get Rx even if the cluster is not fully functional.

SYNC

Illuminates when the Model 360 is synchronized with the hub, i.e. the VSAT is receiving synchronization packets or time clock data from the hub. SYNC will indicate that the hub is transmitting one-way data to all VSATs in it's footprint.

CON

Illuminates when a correctly configured VSAT at the NMS (SatModem ID, IP Address, MAC Address) has finished the downloading phase and is ready to work. [If the MAC address is not configured correctly the LED will come On, but the VSAT will not operate properly and Mission Control Icon will indicate ISP Not Authorized]. Indicates functional aspects of both sides of the connection between Hub and VSAT and all cabling throughout.

Tx

Flashes when Model360 is transmitting (burst mode).
PC Illuminates when Model 360 detects connectivity with PC. (Note that drivers for the USB cable do not need to be installed for this to occur).
